New protest at opencast mining
Peaceful protest is the aim of members of a new environmental group set up to oppose a controversial mining project.
EAVEN, the Erewash and Amber Valley Environmental Network, was set up by residents who want to raise awareness about the opencast mining at Lodge House in Smalley.
It comes after a controversial protest at the site by eco-warriors who staged a two-month sit in and dug tunnels to escape officials attempting to remove them so mining work could start.
